Las respuestas cortas son lo más común que uno hace para contestar rápidamente, sobre todo en conversaciones informales del día a día.Por ejemplo: ¿Estabas aquí ayer?. -No, no estaba.
Y como en este ejemplo, se puede responder de muchas maneras diferentes en relación con la pregunta planteada. ¿Aún no sabias esto?, mira los ejemplos que te doy.

For convenience, treat you as singular, e.g.
A: Are you
ready?
B: Yes, I am.
But you and
Tom or you both must of course be answered with we, e.g.
A: Are you
and Tom ready?
B: Yes, we are.
