Present perfect continuous - Presente perfecto continuo

Este tiempo verbal es para hablar sobre una acción o varias acciones que empiezan en el pasado y continuan recientemente o en el futuro.

We can use it to refer to an action that has finished but you can still see evidence.
  • Oh, the kitchen is a mess. Who has been cooking? / Oh la cocina esta desordenada. ¿Quén ha estado cocinando?
  • You look tired. Have you been sleeping properly? / Pareces cansado. ¿Has estado durmiendo apropiadamente?
It can refer to an action that has not finished.
  • I've been learning Chinese for 20 years and I still don't know very much. / He estado aprendiendo chino 20 años y todavía no se mucho.
  • I've been waiting for him for 30 minutes and he still hasn't arrived. / He estado esperandole 30 minutos y no ha llegado todavía.
  • He's been telling me about it for days. I wish he would stop. / El ha estado contandomelo desde hace días.
It can refer to a series of actions.
  • She's been writing to her regularly for a couple of years. Ella la ha estado escribiendo regularmente por varios años.
  • He's been phoning me all week for an answer. / Ha estado telefoneandome toda la semana por para una respuesta.
  • The university has been sending students here for over twenty years to do work experience. / La universidad ha estado enviando estudantes aquí por veinte años para hacer prácticas.
The present perfect continuous is often used with 'since', 'for', 'all week', 'for days', 'lately', 'recently', 'over the last few months'.
  • I've been wanting to do that for ten years. / He estado esperando para hacer eso por diez años.
  • You haven't been getting good results over the last few months. / No has estado consiguiendo buenos resultados los útimos meses.
  • They haven't been working all week. They're on strike / Han estado trabajando toda la semana.
  • He hasn't been talking to me for weeks. / No ha estado hablandome desde hace semanas.
  • We've been working hard on it for ages. / Hemos estado trabajando duro en ellos por años.
  • I've been looking at other options recently. / He estado mirando recientemente otras opciones.
